What is the Application Process for the CAPM Exam?

Here are some steps that you can follow to complete your CAPM application process.

  • Check Your Eligibility Criteria

The first step before you start filling out the application form is to check whether you meet the eligibility requirements for the exam. The eligibility criteria for the CAPM exam is as follows:

  • Secondary degree 
  • Requirement of 23 hours of project management training/education completed before sitting for the exam.
  • Complete Online Application Form

After checking the eligibility criteria, the next step is to navigate to the official website of PMI and log into your user account. Find the CAPM application form and fill out the following details:

  • Contact information- email address, phone number, residential address, work address, etc.
  • Attained education- the highest level of education, school/university name, etc.
  • Project management experience- details of the project/program, number of hours spent on the project, etc. 
  • Project management education- the name of the institution, course attended, and so on. 

After you fill out all the necessary details, you can submit the application form for review. 

Note: You have 90 days to fill out the application form once you start the application process. 

  • Application Review

Upon submission of your application form, PMI takes about 5-10 days to review your application form for completeness and verify whether you are eligible to take the CAPM exam or not. 

On successful review of your application form, you will receive a confirmation email from PMI. Then you can pay the exam fee and schedule the exam date. 

  • CAPM Audits

PMI conducts a random audit procedure to initiate a quality check for the application form. However, it is completely random, and your application form might or might not be selected for the audit procedure. 

In an audit, you will be required to submit copies of educational certifications, experience certifications, and so on. 

  • Payment and Scheduling 

After clearing all the previous steps, you will receive an approval email from PMI to pay the exam fee and schedule your CAPM examination. The fee structure of the CAPM exam is as follows: 

  • PMI member- $225
  • Non-PMI member- $300
