As the pandemic has impacted Austin, Dress for Success is now reaching a different population than before. Volunteers are now able to give career advice on their lunch hour and after-work hours without the need to commute. One such volunteer is Summer McAfee, a designer and lead program manager at an Austin design studio. She volunteered to give career consultations and mentor women in the Path to Employment program.
A six-week program that began in October was designed to provide job-ready women with the tools to succeed. It has a cohort model that will launch five to six groups each year. Mentor-mentee teams will meet virtually and complete curriculum covering topics such as resume writing, interviewing skills, elevator pitches, and job search strategies. The mentors themselves receive training before pairing with a mentee. After graduation, they will be paired with a woman who has a professional background in marketing, entertainment, and technology.
