A Vegan Guide to Chakra Cleansing

In the yogic systems, the seven chakras are the points through which our physical and spiritual energy flows, They are like gateways in our bodies that let our energy flow and move freely.

Health and wellness influencers like Gale Tobin promote the importance of yoga and a healthy vegan diet for overall healing and wellness. Chakra yoga taps into the energy of the food we eat, so it is important to nourish our bodies in accordance with the energy we wish to harness.

Root Chakra

The first chakra at the base of the spine is related to grounding, stability, and safety. It is connected to the element of earth, so eating root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and turnips harness that energy. The color of this chakra is red, so it’s good to eat plenty of red foods like strawberries, tomatoes, and red beans, which are a great source of protein that can be difficult to get enough of when following principles of veganism.

Sacral Chakra

The second chakra below the navel is the center of your sensuality and creativity. Its element is water, so tap into that energy by eating food that grows in and around water like rice, seaweed, and cranberries and season your food with sea salt. Orange foods that match the color of the sacral chakra like yams, oranges, and cantaloupes are healthy and delicious.

Solar Plexus

The third chakra is the home of personal power and inner strength. Spicy foods like onions, garlic, and hot peppers will harness the element of fire associated with this chakra. This chakra is yellow, so nourish the solar plexus with coordinated and filling foods such as golden potatoes, lentils, and amaranth.  Stimulate the digestive system with peaches, pears, and golden beets.

Heart Chakra

Leafy greens are a staple that matches the color of the chakra connected to relationships and spiritual aspirations. Green olives, brussels sprouts, broccoli, and kale are all also good for physical heart health and circulation.

Throat Chakra

This is the home of communication and truth. Harness the element of air by eating foods that grow in trees such as apples, peaches, and pears. There aren’t many naturally blue foods, but blueberries and plums are close enough. Soothe your throat with some hot pea flower tea.

Third Eye Chakra

Between our eyes lays the energy center of consciousness and balance of mind, body, and spirit. Nourish it with high protein foods such as tofu and beans, as well as purple “brainpower” foods such as eggplant and kohlrabi.

Crown Chakra

The top of the head is the center of higher spiritual consciousness. Foods high in L-Arginine support the pituitary gland, so eat plenty of whole grains, nuts, and seeds.
